USDA FOOD BANK NEWS

August 1, 2012 marked the end of an era for Bethel church and the community in which it serves. It was on that date that the USDA monthly food distribution ceased to exist. This decision was one that was wrestled with for six months as the food bank and USDA have experienced changes in distribution, availability and delivery of necessary items for our program to run.

But as with so many things that come and go in our lives there are always blessings that abound.
•Bethel was the first in the area to provide such a program and it ran and fed people in this community for 12 years.

•Because of this program many were physically fed and nourished.

•Many other churches modeled our program and have begun food programs of their own.

•In just a five mile radius about four other churches provide some kind of food assistance.

•We are now able to dream and put energy into providing a hand to an area that is not currently being met.


The group of volunteers that faithfully participated in this program feel blessed by the doing and are focused on prayer and discernment of the next opportunity we have to be the body of Christ in the world around us.

Please help me extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the many folks, past and present, who were integral to the food distribution mission and program. There are too many to list here but each has been vitally important to its success through the years. We all gave much time, effort and love to feed those in need. God blessed us and our hope is that those who were fed felt His blessings also. I pray that we will soon see clearly what God wishes as He directs us to our next mission in seeking, growing and living our faith.
